Family commends emergency workers

Dear Editor,

While my family mourns the loss of our Papa - Tom Wells - on Sunday, Jan. 11, I wanted to take the time to thank the emergency crews who not only responded to our distress call, but went out of their way to help my family deal with the grief and shock.

Papa died in his sleep, and his wife, Hazel, found him about 7:15 p.m. She called my husband, Rob, and Rob called 911. Within minutes two ambulances were on the scene.

I didn't get the names of all the emergency personnel, but they stayed with us while we waited on the coroner and the funeral home representatives. They even helped move Muv (Hazel) to another part of the house so she didn't have to see Papa being taken away by the funeral home personnel. They also held her when she cried and talked about angels to help comfort a woman who just lost her husband of 35 years.

They helped Muv and Rob and the rest of the family come to a comfortable understanding of letting Papa go. They truly went far and above their call of duty. These wonderful folks serve our community every day, and their kindness to our family is just one example of their good deeds. They are God's living angels.

Our gratitude just does not seem to be enough, but I hope they know they carry our family's love and respect with them where ever they go.

Cindy and Rob Luke

Hazel Wells
