Donna Bussell never dreamt that she would be the recipient of the "Ambassador of The Year" award by the Thomson-McDuffie Chamber of Commerce.
During Tuesday night's 37th annual chamber banquet, though, she was pleasantly surprised when she was named to receive such an honor. The award is a new one and is expected to be presented annually from now on by chamber officials.
"It was a big shock to me," said Mrs. Busseell, who works as a bookkeeper and office manager at Baird & Company CPAs, LLC on Railroad Street in Thomson. "I wasn't expecting this at all."
Mrs. Bussell, whose husband, Ronnie, accompanied her to the banquet, has served as a chamber of commerce ambassador for several years.
"I want to continue to serve as a chamber ambassador and help out when I can," said Mrs. Bussell, pointing out that she enjoys her role with the local chamber. "I really like what I do. I enjoy helping people."
Ambassadors are chamber members who go out into the community to visit other members and to share with them about upcoming events. They also get feedback from those members and report such information back to chamber officials.
