WARRENTON, Ga. - The Lady Screaming Devils of Warren County High School are beaming right now - having recently clinched the 4A-A Sub-Region basketball title.
"By clinching the sub-region title, it makes us the No. 1 seed in the region playoffs," according to Warren County Head Coach Jaamal Rhodes. "We're very excited about this and the accomplishments our team has made this season."
The region playoffs will be hosted by Hancock Central High School in Sparta. In the last regular season game played last Friday, the Lady Screaming Devils entertained the Lincoln County Lady Red Devils and handed them a 66-59 defeat.
The same two teams were scheduled to have played in Lincolnton on Tuesday night.
Warren County's Candice Warthen, a junior, pumped in 33 points during the Friday night against Lincoln County.
"She had another one of her great games shooting the basketball," Coach Rhodes said.
In addition to her outstanding offensive performance, Warthen also yanked down 15 rebounds, recorded eight assists and had six steals.
Two of her teammates, Takesia Harris and Sondrea Hardin, also played an impressive game against Lincoln County. Harris scored 13 points, had eight rebounds, and six assists, while Hardin scored eight points and snatched down nine rebounds.
