Mrs. Betty Jean Snellings Burgess

THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Betty Jean Snellings Burgess, 73, wife of the late Henry J. Burgess, entered into rest on Thursday, February 19, 2009, at the Medical College of Georgia.

Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2009, in the Snellings Family Cemetery on William Few Parkway.

Mrs. Burgess was born in Columbia County to the late Frank Thomas Snellings, Sr., and Elma Newman Snellings. She was a longtime resident of Elizabeth City, N.C., and was a homemaker.

Survivors include two brothers, James Snellings (Linda), Dearing, and Clinton Snellings (Pat), of Harlem; two sisters, Margaret Strother, Martinez, and Brenda Dyches (Paul), Grovetown; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Allen Snellings, Mark Snellings, Lee Snellings, David Martinez, Russell Snellings and Wesley Snellings.

Deacon Luther "Buddy" Cartledge

DEARING, Ga. - Funeral service for Deacon Luther "Buddy" Cartledge, 95, of Dearing, was held on Saturday, February 21, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the First Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in the Winfield Community, with the Rev. Roscoe F. Perry officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary F. Dorsey, Thomson, and Hattie (Frank) Brown, Atlanta; one son, Willie Frank Cartledge, Thomson; sister, Louise Lowe, Thomson; sister-in-law, Ruth Cartledge, Harrisburg, Va.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.
