The Warren County Lady Screaming Devils completed region play Saturday at Hancock Central. Hancock Central played host for the second and third rounds of the Region 4 tournament. The weekend games were used to determine the seeding for the state tournament.
The Lady Devils put on an impressive performance Friday night against the Lady Bulldogs of GMC. Candice Warthen led the Devils to a 49-25 victory while contributing 34 points in the winning effort. The win set up a Saturday meeting with Hancock Central for the region championship. The Bulldogs of Hancock Central handed the Lady Devils their only regular season losses to a Class A opponent.
Saturday's meeting between the Lady Devils and Hancock provided plenty of excitement from the opening tip-off to the final buzzer. The first quarter ended with both teams tied at 9 points. Warren County took control in the second quarter and outscored the Lady Bulldogs by 10 to take a 27-17 lead into the locker room.
Hancock managed to narrow the Lady Devils' lead in the third period to only 4 points. The fourth period began with Warren leading by the score of 35-31. Warren County's lead would not last as Hancock came from behind in the 4th period to win by a score of 53-47.
The Lady Devils will play host to Emanuel County Institute Friday, Feb. 27, in the first round of the state playoffs. The boy's team will travel to Savannah Saturday, Feb. 28, to take on Calvary.
