Warren County to face Calvary Day in playoffs

WARRENTON, Ga. - The Warren County Screaming Devils are in the state basketball playoffs.

And first year Head Coach Levon Grant couldn't be more excited.

"I'm as excited as I can be, because this was one of the goals that we wanted to achieve this season," Coach Grant said during a telephone interview on Tuesday. "I'm also very excited for our players, because they have worked so hard to get to this point."

The Screaming Devils, 12-13 overall and 7-2 in region play this season, will travel to Savannah on Saturday to take on Calvary Day School in the first-round of the Class A State Basketball Playoffs. Game time is set for 5 p.m.

Calvary Day School, 15-10 overall and winners of their region, sport one of the most-talented players in Georgia. His name is Cody Padgett, who is averaging 28.7 points per game this season.

"We're going to do our best to try and hold him down and keep him from scoring that many points against us," Coach Grant said, noting that he plans to have two of his players defending him at all times.

The two players being referred to are Jonathan Lewis and Darius Jenkins.

"They've got to come up big for us in terms of their defense," Coach Grant said.

The first year coach said he feels good about his team's chances of winning.

"I feel like they are a team that we can beat," Coach Grant added. "We just have to go out and play our game and show them that we came to play good, sound basketball."
