Thomson High, Warren County basketball players named to all-region teams

Three varsity boys' basketball players and one varsity girl player at Thomson High School have been selected for All-Region honors.

At neighboring Warren County High School, meanwhile, two varsity boys' players and two varsity girl players have earned similar distinction.

Thomson High senior guard Richard Johnson was named to the 3-AAA Boys' All-Region First Team, while teammate Radney Tutt, also a senior, was named to the All-Region Second Team. A third Thomson player, Ronkeem Sallywhite, was named to the All-Region Third Team.

The Bulldogs made it to the first-round of the Class AAA Boys' State Basketball Tournament where they were defeated by the South Atlanta team of Derick Favors and his Hornets. Favors, one of the premier prep basketball players in Georgia this year, will play for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets next season.

Other 3-AAA All-Region boys' First Team players included: Bobby Burum, Burke County; Chakimis Moss, Richmond Hill; Trantell Knight, West Laurens; and Rion Brown, Liberty County.

Second Team All-Region players were: Jordan Mcrae, Liberty County; Kentorey Johnson, Washington County; Javonis May, Baldwin County; and Martaveous Smith, Burke County.

Third Team All-Region players were: Melvin Johnson, Washington County; Corey Blash, West Laurens; JaQuez Rozier, Burke County; and Arzavier Renfroe, Washington County.

Player of The Year was Jaren Harris of Washington County. WACO Head Coach Carlos Hope was named Coach of The Year.

Thomson's Natasha Ballard was named to the 3-AAA Girls' All-Region Second Team. She was joined by the following other players from area teams: Raven Washington, Washington County; Candice Barham, Liberty County; Shatoria Hudson, Baldwin County; and Latronda Yauncy, Washington County.

The First Team consisted of the following players: Maya Jordan, West Laurens; Antorria Walker, Burke County; Santoria Basley, Baldwin County; Tyler Carlson, Richmond Hill; and Shakimma Wiggins, Washington County.

The Third Team was made up of the following players: Yasma Lynch, Burke County; Ebony Lucas, West Laurens; Angel Acree, Washington County; Haley Marks, Baldwin County; and Tay Reynolds, Richmond Hill.

The Player of The Year was Teshia Griswold of Baldwin County, while the Coach of The Year was Jenean Cooper-Bolston of Baldwin County.

At Warren County High School two boys' basketball players, Stanley Johnson and Tay Erwin received Class All-Region honors. Johnson was named to the First Team, while Erwin was named to the Second Team.

The two WCHS players receiving All-Region honors were Candice Warthen, who was named to the First Team, and Tynisha Harris, who was named to the Second Team.
