Mrs. Alice Newsome Cook Pettit
Homemaker

THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Alice Newsome Cook Pettit, 90, of Thomson, entered into rest March 16, 2009, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Cook and the late Thomas R. Pettit.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Beggs Funeral Home Chapel in Thomson, with Rev. Ficklen Guin officiating. Interment followed at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were her grandsons: Robert McCarty, Andy McCarty, David McCarty, Tripp Kennedy, Brad Belcher and Kevin Belcher.

Mrs. Pettit was a native of Wilkes County, but lived in Thomson most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Mansfield Newsome and the late Emma Waters Newsome. Mrs. Pettit was a homemaker, a member of Greenwood Baptist Church and she attended New Providence.

Survivors include: daughters: Hilda Cook McCarty, Washington, Judy Pettit, Memphis, Tenn., Gail Pettit Belcher, Augusta; brother: Tom Wood Newsome, St. Paul, Minn.; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Emogene Cook Kennedy.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
