Chamber's 'Denim, Diamonds and Flip-Flops' concert comes to Thomson on April 4

This year's Denim and Diamonds concert will include a blast from the past. The annual Chamber of Commerce spring concert, featuring Chuck Moye and Friends, will include soul, rock and roll, funk and beach music for "Denim, Diamonds and Flip-Flops."

"We play things that mostly everybody likes... we specialize in dance music," Chuck Moye said. "Everything from funk and beach music to the oldies, from Bob Seger to the Temptations, Drifters and Steve Miller Band. It's a lot of fun."

Nine years ago, the Chamber held a Beach Blast concert, which was changed last year to Denim and Diamonds. The annual event is a bring-your-own-chair outdoor event.

"It's going to carry more of a beach theme this year," Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Chairwoman Angela Blair said. "This is one of the things that Stokes Hodges funds. ... It's the Chamber's way of giving back to the community and helps fund the different things we do throughout the year."

Stokes Hodges also provided the new location for this year's event, which will be held on the empty property beside the Stokes Hodges auto dealership on Washington Road in Thomson, Mrs. Blair said.

Mr. Moye and his band have played at private parties for two years all along the east coast. Mr. Moye is a resident of Thomson, and the other band members - T-Bone Thomas (formerly with Clarence Carter), Lavirt Bowman (formerly with Sandy B and the All Stars), Mike West (with Jessie Young and the Youngbloods) and Ken Boswell (of the Fabulous Expressions) - are all from Augusta.

"So the guys have a lot of experience. It's a real high-energy band," Mr. Moye said.

Tickets are $10 and are available at Stokes Hodges, the McDuffie County Chamber of Commerce or at the gate. Corporate tables, which seat six, are available in advance for $120.

Although no coolers are allowed, food will be available from Poppa's Finest BBQ and the Chamber will have beer, wine and sodas available for purchase. The gates will open at 7 p.m. and the concert begins at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 4.

Call the Chamber office at 706-597-1000 for more info.

The Camellia Sponsor of the event is Stokes-Hodges of Thomson. Other sponsors include Milsco Manufacturing Co., Anthony Auto Sales, Inc., Williams Sewer and Drain, Georgia Vitrified Clay Products, The McDuffie Mirror and Jimmy and Dena's Body Shop.
