THOMSON, Ga. -- Mrs. Helen Simons Purdy, 88, widow of Mr. Walter Purdy, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, in Thomson Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Purdy was a native of McDuffie County. She lived the first part of her life in McDuffie and Warren County and the last part in Columbia County. She was a retired service station owner and was a member of the Mesena United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Purdy, her parents, Fred and Ethel G. Simons, her two brothers, Howard (Skip) Simons and Clarence Simons, and a daughter, Joan Y. Palmer.
She is survived by her son, Mr. Jack L. Yelton, Jr., Mesena; a granddaughter, Marsha Mooney, Lincolnton; nephew, Sidney Simons, Mokane, Mo.; nieces, Peggy S. Benson, Thomson, and Jeannie S. Wells, Boneville; great nieces, Kimberly Carter and Marie Knox; and several cousins.
Pallbearers were Cecil Bullard, James Bridges, Vernon Burkey, Vernon Johnson, Dan Carter and W.F. Norris.
Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
