Bulldogs wrap-up soccer with loss

Soccer season is now officially over for the Thomson High Bulldogs, who finished the season with a 4-10 overall record.

"I felt we were just as talented a team as we were last year - the only difference being that we played in a much stronger region this year," Thomson Head Coach Barry Arrington said. "I thought that was the big difference."

A new Region 3-AAA alignment by the Georgia High School Association placed Thomson into a region that plays such schools as Baldwin, Richmond Hill, West Laurens, Liberty County and Washington County.

The Bulldogs played two overtime games and several other games that could have gone either way. Unfortunately for the Thomson team, none of those games went their way.

"The new region is made up of a lot of strong soccer teams," Coach Arrington said. "The teams we played last year weren't as strong in the old region."

Coach Arrington, who just completed his fifth season, praised several of his players for their performances in games this season. They included: Mat Neal, Michael Thompson, Jay Bieltz, Pop Chambliss, Cullen Wallace, Mark Ricketson, Anthony Brown, Josh Wright, Marquis Cook and Justin Betrouse.

For the second straight season, Bieltz led the team in scoring.
