The annual Dearing Mayfest will be this Saturday on the grounds of the old Dearing Elementary School on Highway 278. A parade starts the festival at 9 a.m. and the festival ends at 4 p.m.
"It's a lot of good, fun stuff," said organizer Beverly McCorkle-Welch.
There will be arts and crafts and food vendors, the tractor display, and live entertainment.
The annual Miss Allene's Burger Battle will take place, with burgers being turned in to judges at 11 a.m. The contest is named after Allene Reeves, who opened a sandwich shop in Dearing in the 1940s. Burgers will be sold Saturday to the public between 11:30 and noon to determine the crowd favorite.
Children may enjoy large inflatables for $10 for the entire day, or $2 per ride.
The Mayfest began several years ago as a fundraiser to renovate the old Dearing Gym. This year, part of the festival will be held in the now-renovated gym, with entertainment from Gymnastics Gold and the Thomson Competitive Cheerleaders. Proceeds from the festival will continue to go toward the upkeep and maintenance of the gym.
Admission to the festival is free. Free parking is at the Eubank Company across the street, with free, handicap-accessible shuttle service to the festival.
