The Thomson High School Lady Bulldogs' track team is excited about competing in this weekend's region track meet at Burke County High School in Waynesboro.
This year's Lady Bulldog track team consists primarily of juniors and sophomores, according to Thomson Head Coach Christopher Harris.
"We have only two throwers - both of whom are seniors," Coach Harris said. "Our girls have picked up the drills extremely fast and are extremely competitive."
Thomson finished the regular season with a 2-1 record. They lost a heartbreaking match to the Burke County Lady Bears of Waynesboro earlier this season. The Lady Bears defeated Thomson by two-points, 58-56.
During the past two seasons, the Lady Bulldogs have amassed an impressive 8-2 record - one that Coach Harris is most proud of.
"That's not a bad record when you consider that this group is young and they are getting adjusted to a new coach and new style of doing things," Coach Harris said. "I have high hopes of having a solid showing at the region meet and actually having a solid showing over the next couple of years, since we have such a young team that is learning and growing together."
The region meet begins on Friday and concludes Saturday.
Coach Harris said he couldn't do what he does without the assistance of fellow coaches Willie Williams and Stacie Mims.
"Both of them have been great assets to the team as assistant coaches," Coach Harris said. "When the girls see unity amongst the coaches, it produces unity amongst the athletes."
