DEARING, Ga. - Mrs. Georgia Frances Slay Hawkins, 91, wife of the late Brook C. Hawkins, entered into rest Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at Thomson Health and Rehabilitation.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Todd Upchurch officiating. Interment was in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, in Grovetown.
Mrs. Hawkins was born in Elberton, Ga., to the late Lonnie Slay and Elizabeth Georgia Johnson Slay. She had worked at Thomson Company and was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, and her grandchildren. She also enjoyed attending Calvary Baptist Church and all of her good friends there.
She was preceded in death by her husband, B.C. Hawkins; brother, Raymond Slay; daughter, Beverly Davis; and great-grandson, Will Hawkins.
Survivors include two sons, James A. Hawkins, Sr., Dearing and Keith (Jennifer) Hawkins, Thomson: one sister, Elree Bradford, Dearing; one brother, Frank (Janice) Slay, Elberton; grandchildren, Dee (Jeff) Dent, James Hawkins, Jr., Scott (Pam) Hawkins, Drew (Leslie) Hawkins, Travis (Lisa) Hawkins, Chris Hawkins, Reed Davis, Jana Davis; a close friend, Sandra McCorkle; great-grandchildren, Came, Kevin, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Brock (Bliss), Bryce, Breanna, Griffin, and three step-greatgrands, Conner, Rebecca and Shirah.
Starling Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
