Region baseball crown, 'a long time in coming' for seniors

Winning the Region 3-AAA baseball title was special for the four seniors on the Thomson High team last week.

"It's like a dream come true," said a jubilant second baseman Zack Washington. "This is the biggest thing to happen since I've been playing high school baseball."

Starting catcher Jonathan Talkington described it as being "a long time in coming. We've waited four years to get to this point. It feels great."

Jake Unokur, who has seen a lot of action as an infielder/outfielder for the Bulldogs this season, was as happy as could be, too.

"This is what we've been playing for all of this time," said Unokur.

Will Anderson, the team's starting first baseman and the No. 2 starting pitcher, said winning the region championship was what he had longed to do during his four-year prep career.

"It feels awesome," said Anderson. "All of our hard work has paid off."

The four seniors said accomplishing such a feat was something they would never forget.

"This is great," added Anderson. "I'll never forget us winning the region baseball championship my senior year."
