Briarwood Academy athletes participating in the spring sports of tennis, golf, baseball and track were honored at the annual spring sports banquet held last week at the school along with the school's seniors, who received special recognition for their contributions to the athletic program at Briarwood.
Seniors Sarah Nutial and Ryan Gerlach received the W. T. Pilcher Award for loyalty to the school. The award is presented annually in memory of the long-time Briarwood supporter to both a male and female senior athlete who have been outstanding in their representation of Briarwood athletics throughout their high school career.
Senior Cane Gilmer was named the Diamond Bucs Most Valuable Player. Senior Jonathan Gay was named the team's the Best Offensive Player. Gerlach was named the team's Best Defensive Player. Eighth grader Jarrett Keen received the Coaches Award for baseball.
All three of the Bucs' seniors were named to the GISA 1A All Region team.
Gay received the Will T. Holley Memorial Award in memory of the outstanding Briarwood athlete, who loved baseball.
Junior Lizzie Keen was named the Most Valuable Runner for the Lady Bucs track squad, while senior Nick Dawson received the Most Valuable Runner award for the Bucs track team. Keen and Dawson also received the award in 2008.
Senior Price Chalker was named the golf team's Most Valuable Player for the second year. Freshman Ashton Wiley received the Most Improved Player award for the golf team.
Junior Emily Henderson was named the Most Valuable Player for the Lady Bucs tennis team, while senior Chase Walker was named the Most Valuable Player for the Bucs tennis team.
