Applications are being taken for the vacant position of head baseball coach at Thomson High School.
Terry Holder, who had served in that capacity for the past four years, announced last Friday that he is stepping down to go back into retirement.
"We haven't had time to meet and discuss the coaching vacancy at this time with school fixing to be out for the summer and all," Thomson High Principal Rudy Falana told The McDuffie Mirror during an interview on Monday. "We realize that time is of the essence."
Mr. Falana said he and THS Athletic Director Luther Welsh are expected to meet later this week to discuss the vacancy.
At least two assistant coaches already on the baseball staff - Aaron Hall and Jason Osborn - have indicated an interest in the job.
Coach Hall serves as athletic director at Thomson Middle School. He has been a teacher/coach in the McDuffie County School System for 11 years.
Aside from teaching and coaching at TMS, Coach Hall also works in the same capacity at Thomson-McDuffie County Junior High School.
He grew up in Thomson, and graduated from Thomson High School. He and his family still live here.
Coach Osborn, meanwhile, came to Thomson High several years ago after serving as head baseball coach at Hephzibah High School.
He is a graduate of Westside High School in Augusta.
He currently serves as girls' varsity softball head coach at THS and teaches there.
