THS students improve on graduation tests

It's a dream come true.

Commencement exercises for the Thomson High School Class of 2009 will be held in the Brickyard at 8 p.m. Saturday. Approximately 240 seniors will march across the stage to receive their diplomas, 41 of those will be honor graduates.

"It was a smaller class this year, but they've done great," Principal Rudy Falana said to members of the Board of Education Tuesday morning. "And the number of graduates and honor graduates could change after we recalculate grades on Friday. It looks like we could have as many as 50 honor graduates. They've been working hard."

The theme for this year's ceremony is a quote by Harriet Tubman: "Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world."

The Seniors Honors Night program two weeks ago focused on the first portion of the quote about dreaming, and graduation will focus on the latter portion about strength, patience and passion, according to THS Assistant Principal Lynn Cato.
