A violent two-car crash at a city intersection in Thomson injured a woman and a man on Wednesday afternoon.
Trooper Patrick Prosser of the Georgia State Patrol post in Thomson identified the victims as Gail L. Johnson, of the 1000 block of Woodcrest Drive, Thomson and Richel Dontray Dawson, of Milledgeville, Ga.
The victims were treated at the scene by personnel with the McDuffie County Emergency Medical Services and firefighters/first responders with the Thomson Fire Department. Both of them were taken by ambulances to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta.
The wreck occurred shortly before 12:40 p.m. at the intersection of Ware Street and Mount Pleasant Road.
Trooper Prosser, who was assisted in working the wreck by Trooper First Class Rich Fishel and Trooper Jason MacDonald, said Ms. Johnson was traveling north on Mount Pleasant Road when her 1986 Dodge Aires was struck on the passenger side by Mr. Dawson's 1991 Mazda 626LX.
The trooper said Mr. Dawson apparently pulled out in front of Ms. Johnson, causing the collision.
The wreck remains under investigation.
