The Braves beat the Rangers 10-1 last Thursday to remain undefeated in 11-12 year-old recreation baseball at Sweetwater Park.
The three Braves pitchers, Zion Howard, Whit Newton, and Cody Brown, combined to throw a no-hitter striking out 11 batters and only giving up four walks in five innings.
The Braves offense collected the 10 runs on seven hits and eight walks. The Braves scored two runs in the first inning, starting with Zion Howard's RBI single before Alex Hyman walked with the bases loaded. Howard, who went 2 for 3 in the game, also picked up two RBI with a single to left in the third inning. Howard scored on Owen Smallwood's two RBI double that also scored Hunter Floyd to put them up 6-0 in the third
The Rangers only run came in the fourth inning when relief pitcher Brown walked Ja'Torell Mauce and Billy Youngblood to start the inning. Wonduris Howard hit a ground ball to Braves third baseman Brian Smith who stepped on third to force out Mauce, but his throw to first got past Newton allowing Youngblood to reach third. With one out, Jonathon McGahee dropped down a sacrifice bunt along the first base line to score Youngblood. Brown then struck out Tyler Gordon to end the inning.
The Braves answered back by scoring four runs in the fourth with Smith and Newton both smacking RBI doubles, putting the Braves up 10-1.
The Rangers managed to get runners on second and third with two outs when Detravious Brinkly and Markevious Wood walked in the fifth and final inning. Mauce then hit a ground ball to Zion Howard at first to end the game.
The Braves are 10-0 and their next game is to be determined.
The Rangers are 7-5 and their next game will be in the playoffs this Thursday at Sweetwater Park.
