Robbery leads to man, woman being shot near Thomson

Local and state authorities are continuing to investigate a double-shooting that left a man and woman injured early Tuesday in McDuffie County.

As of Wednesday morning, there had been no arrests. Authorities are searching for three men believed connected to the shooting - all of whom were reportedly wearing dark clothing, masks and armed with at least a handgun and a "long gun," according to McDuffie County Sheriff's Department Major Ronnie Williamson.

Maj. Williamson identified the gunshot victims as Antron Wright, 29, of the 2300 block of Anderson Road, Thomson and Shameka Hudson, 27, of Riverdale, Ga.

Mr. Wright is believed to have been shot at least three times - receiving wounds to the left leg, a hip and to the left side, Maj. Williamson said. He was treated at the scene by personnel with the McDuffie County Emergency Medical Services and firefighters/first responders with the McDuffie County Fire/Rescue Services. Mr. Wright was taken by ambulance to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he remained in serious condition on Wednesday, Maj. Williamson added.

Ms. Hudson received a leg wound and was taken by private vehicle to the emergency room of McDuffie Regional Medical Center where she was treated, Maj. Williamson told The McDuffie Mirror. She since has been released.

"This was a robbery," Maj. Williamson said. "We've called in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to assist us in this investigation."

GBI Crime Scene Specialist Steve Foster was called to the scene, as was Maj. Williamson and Sheriff's Investigator Larry Adaway. Deputies Bret Bentley and Marc Thompson responded to the initial call.

A back door is believed to have been kicked in, which allowed the robbers to enter Mr. Wright's home, located at 2369 Anderson Road in the Doodle Hill area, off the Wrens Highway, Maj. Williamson said. The shooting occurred shortly before 3:30 a.m.

Anyone with information concerning this case should contact the McDuffie County Sheriff's Department at 706-595-2040 or the GBI Region 7 Office in Thomson at 706-595-2575.
