THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Charles E. Echols, 72, of Thomson, entered into rest June 11, 2009 at MCG. He was the beloved husband of Linda Chandler Echols.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 15, 2009 at Sweetwater Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Garvin and Carroll Leopard officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lamar Doolittle, Gene Walker, Stephen Chandler, Lynwood Chandler, David Bennett and Richard Downs. Honorary Pallbearers were members of the C. D. Cason Sunday School Class.
Mr. Echols was a native of Forsyth County, Ga., but lived in McDuffie County since 1977. He was the son of the late Leslie Ralph Echols and the late Ruby Day Echols. Mr. Echols served in the U. S. Army Reserves. He was retired as a representative of United Family Life Insurance Company with 30 years of service and was retired as a bus driver with the McDuffie County Board of Education with 30 years of service. He also worked with his son's business, Springer Lawn Maintenance. Mr. Echols was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and former Properties Chairman for many years.
Survivors include his wifeife, Linda Chandler Echols, Thomson; daughters: Allison Doolittle, and her husband, Lamar, Sandersville, Ga., and Amy Echols, Thomson; son: Charles Matthew Echols, and his wife, Margret, Thomson; brother: Larry Echols, Wyoming; Wynona Mathis, Kennesaw, Ga.; grandchildren: Laura Allyn Doolittle, Benjamin Lamar Doolittle, Mary Chandler Echols and Charles Marshall Echols.
