A 27-year-old Warrenton man was taken into custody on assorted drug charges after a traffic stop at a business in Thomson on Wednesday morning.
Trooper Matthew MacDonald of the Georgia State Patrol post in Thomson identified the suspect as Marchello Rivers, of the 100 block of Ponderosa Lane. Mr. Rivers was charged with Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act for possession of marijuana and possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, Trooper MacDonald told The McDuffie Mirror at the scene.
Mr. Rivers was taken to the McDuffie County Law Enforcement Center in Thomson. He was officially served with the warrants charging him with the offenses about 1 p.m.
Trooper MacDonald said he seized approximately a little more than an ounce of marijuana, some Zantax pills and some digital scales, when searching a 1993 Jeep Cherokee belonging to Mr. Rivers' wife, Kifney Rivers, of Harlem. Mrs. Rivers, who was driving the Jeep, was cited for improperly transferring a tag, Trooper MacDonald said.
The trooper said he pulled over Mrs. Rivers in the parking lot of Advance Auto Parts on Main Street shortly before 11 a.m. A search of the vehicle subsequently revealed the illegal drugs.
Trooper MacDonald was assisted by Trooper First Class Mike Callaway, as well as Deputies Kerry Johnson and Kalvin Johnson of the McDuffie County Sheriff's Department.
