The McDuffie County Board of Education issued a press release Sunday announcing two finalists in their search for a new school superintendent. Dr. James A. Franklin and Mr. Jim L. LeBrun are the two candidates.
In March, the board hired the Georgia School Boards Association to conduct a nationwide search for the position after Superintendent Mark Petersen turned in his letter of retirement in February, to become effective June 30.
GSBA received 31 applications, which were classified according to their qualifications and turned into the local school board members. In a called session on Sunday, the board selected Dr. Franklin and Mr. LeBrun. The final vote will be made after the mandatory 14-day waiting period, which will be Sunday, July 5.
Board Chairwoman Georgia Hobbs said the board will meet on June 30 to name an interim superintendent. The public may offer input on the two candidates by emailing or writing letters to the board members. Mrs. Hobbs said the addresses can be found at www.mcduffie.k12.ga.us.
