Several employees at Shaw Industries recently got a hands-on lesson in fire safety.
McDuffie County Fire/Rescue Services Capt. Ed Lewis led the class last week at the plant on Warrenton Highway. Participants learned to work as a team and use a fire extinguisher to douse flames.
Shaw Environmental, Health & Safety Manager Michael Ray said the class served several purposes for the estimated 90 employees who participated. Many of the employees were members of the plant's emergency response teams or safety committee.
"We are training them to be first responders," Mr. Ray said. "They can be here to step in and assist as needed."
