Mirror publisher leaving

Jason B. Smith, publisher of The McDuffie Mirror, will be leaving the newspaper in the coming weeks.

''This has truly been a labor of love for me,'' Mr. Smith said Thursday. ''At the same time, I am so excited about the future - not only personally, but also for this newspaper.''

Mr. Smith will be joining the staff of Joseph M. Still Burn Centers, Inc., as Vice President of Communications.

A search for a new publisher for the newspaper will begin immediately. Mr. Smith said he was looking forward to working with his successor.

''This is such a great community, and I am so proud of the newspaper they've helped us create,'' Mr. Smith said. "And with the staff we already have in place, The Mirror is in great hands."

As editor, Mr. Smith helped usher in The McDuffie Mirror in July 2003. Previously, he served as Columbia County Bureau Chief for The Augusta Chronicle.
