A 25-year-old Thomson man has died from injuries received in a pickup truck crash near Columbia, S.C. early Thursday, according to authorities.
Justin Shelton, of White Oak Road, was taken by ambulance to Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia where he died a short time later, South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Josef Robinson, a public information officer, said.
Mr. Shelton, a graduate of Thomson High School, lost control of his 2004 Chevrolet pickup while traveling south on Interstate 77 near Shop Road about 5:55 a.m., Lance Cpl. Robinson said. He later struck a guardrail before overturning several times. Mr. Shelton, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the truck.
It was raining at the time of the crash, which occurred about four miles from Columbia, Lance Cpl. Robinson said.
