Mr. Paul Cullen Hinton

GIBSON, Ga. - Mr. Paul Cullen Hinton, 98, of Gibson, passed away on August 15, 2009, at Gibson Health and Rehab Center.

Born August 1, 1911 in Glascock County, he was the son of the late Mike and Clara Parrish Hinton (Irby) and the husband of the late Ethel Kitchens Gray Hinton. They were married 8 years, eight months and eight days. Mr. Paul lived all his life in Georgia, mostly in Avera, Augusta, Thomson and Macon. After retiring from The Georgia Power Co. with 40 years of service, he returned to Gibson. After he retired he worked for two other companies and retired a second time. From 1999 - 2007 he served on Gibson City Council. Mr. Paul loved the land and was a farmer his entire life. He had much love for his family and friends and enjoyed sharing his bounties with each of them. He was well known in his community for his generosity and big heart. Traveling off the beaten path was one of the many joys in his life. He was well blessed to have numerous friends from near and far. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by one sister, Dora Harrell of Spartanburg, SC, and twenty-two nieces and nephews and their families. Also surviving are five stepdaughters and husbands, Pat Rios (Rick), Wanda Jobes (Mel), Cindy Harrell (Murphy), Linda Barrow, and Kathy Benson, and two stepsons and wives, Mark Gray (Pam) and Wayne Gray (Diane). He was preceded in death by his first wife Nellie Hobbs Hinton, daughter Gladys Hinton Holmes, two infant sons, Marvin and Cullen, infant daughter Patricia, two sisters, Seeney Phillips Mallard, Mary Clark, and six brothers, Rex, Mike, Abner (Jesse), Milas, Andrew, and infant Eugene.

The family would like to acknowledge their deepest gratitude and appreciation to the staff and each caregiver at the Gibson Health and Rehab Center for their ongoing kindness and loving care of our loved one and also to Trinity Hospice for their help and care. A special thanks to Pat and Rick Rios and Mark and Pam Gray for all their love, kindness and concern for Mr. Paul. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 18, 1 - 2 PM at Fellowship Baptist Church, Hwy. 171 S, Gibson.

Service was Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 2 p.m. officiated by Elders Thomas Roundtree and Robert Torrance.

Pallbearers were Scott Usry, Donald Kent, Lester Hadden, Rick Rios, Mark Gray, and Dave Barrow.

Singer will be Mr. Paul's niece, Drenda Clark Hardy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Glascock County for Concerned Citizens c/o Corene Chalker, 3037Bastonville Rd., Gibson, Ga. 30810, or to the charity of ones choice.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
