The time is drawing closer for Briarwood Academy's first football game of the season at home Friday.
And no one could be more excited than Briarwood second-year head coach John Osborne, who has been preparing for the season opener for weeks.
"I believe we're ready to begin the season," he said. "We've worked real hard this summer and gotten much stronger in the weight room."
He believes that his team's strength will be an advantage.
In the past, the Buccaneers have been prone to injury, and coach Osborne believes that having worked out in the weight room will be a big factor in his players not getting hurt as often.
"We're going to be much stronger than we were last year," coach Osborne said.
The Buccaneers play host to the Edmund Burke Academy Spartans from Waynesboro this Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
Coach Osborne said it would be nice to get the season off to a good start with a win.
"They're going to be a good team," Coach Osborne said of the Spartans. "We're just going to have to stay with our game plan and not allow them to take us away from it. I'm expecting it to be a real good football game."
