HISTORIC KNOX THEATRE MARQUEE LIGHTING CEREMONY

WHERE: Downtown Warrenton

WHEN: Monday, Aug. 31, 7:30 p.m.

FOR MORE INFO: The newly renovated facade of the Historic Knox Theatre will be shown. The first phase of the renovation is complete, and they want to celebrate the first step to having this nostalgic piece of history back in operation again. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the short ceremony before the "lights come on." Special guests will be present and short speeches planned. There are also plans for musical entertainment. The fund raising campaign will begin and refreshments will be served from the concession stand. The lights will go on at approximately 8:15 p.m.

SPAGHETTI DINNER AND BASKET AUCTION

WHERE: Harlem Middle School

WHEN: Friday, Sept. 11, 5:30 p.m.

FOR MORE INFO: Cost is $5 per plate. There will be a live auctioneer auctioning off baskets full of goodies. The event will raise money for the school's band program. Call (706) 556-8099.

FIGHTING CANCER CAN BE BEAUTIFUL

WHERE: McDuffie Regional Medical Center

WHEN: Monday, Sept. 14, 5-7 p.m.

FOR MORE INFO: Look good ... Feel Better is a free program that teaches adult female cancer patients how to cope with the appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Each participant receives a free gift kit of name-brand cosmetics for use during and after the workshop. The kits are donated by the Personal Care Products Council Foundation. The classes are available for residents in Warrenton, McDuffie, Lincoln, Jefferson and Wilkes counties. To RSVP call Danielle Truan at (706) 731-9900 at the American Cancer Society.

WILDWOOD SPORTSMANS FESTIVAL

WHERE: Wildwood Park, Washington Road at Keg Creek Drive, Appling

WHEN: Saturday, Sept. 5

BARBECUE AND SAUCE CONTEST

WHERE: Harlem United Methodist Church field

WHEN: Saturday, Sept. 12, cooking starts at 7 a.m., music starts at 11 a.m., judging starts at 3 p.m. and winners are announced at 4 p.m.

MORE INFO: Sponsored by the Harlem Complete Count Committee and the United States Census, the Everybody Counts Barbecue Cookoff and Sauce Contest will include live entertainment, vendors, inflatables for children and food.
