Five Questions - Alex Bolia

Name: Alex Bolia

School: Ninth grader at Thomson-McDuffie Junior High School

Family: Parents H. Peter and Kieu Bolia, and one brother.

What is your favorite subject?

Biology. It's fun, it's interactive and it teaches about life and more about yourself. You're actually learning about yourself when you are studying biology.

What have you learned today?

In world history, I learned that the ancient Egyptians were conquered by Alexander the Great.

What do you like to do after school?

Well, I go to JROTC, and I'm an auto mechanic at my dad's tire shop in Dearing, CNT Automotive. I like being a mechanic.

What would you like to do when you grow up?

I'd like to be an author. I already write science fiction books. Also, I'd like to be an astromicrobiologist. I've always wanted to be one of those guys studying on Mars. .... I think there's going to be people living there one day. There's nowhere else to go but up.

What would you like to see in McDuffie County for young people?

We have almost everything, but certain things could be improved on. I wish we had a summer program, not summer school, but sort of like STRIDE camp or a QUEST program all summer long. I really liked QUEST, but it ends at fifth grade.
