Mr. James Henry "Sarge" Appling
U.S. Army Retiree

Mr. James Henry "Sarge" Appling, 77, of Lincolnton Hwy, Thomson, entered into rest August 18, 2009 at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Robbie Appling and the late Sara Appling.

Memorial services were held 11 a.m., Thursday, August 20, 2009, at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Boyd Reeves officiating.

Mr. Appling was born in Oglethorpe County, Ga., and was the son of the late Otis Henry Appling and the late Margaret Anna Andrews Appling. He served in the U. S. Army during Korea and Vietnam and retired after 20 years of service. Mr. Appling was also retired from Hoover Treated Wood Products as a maintenance supervisor and was a volunteer firefighter with the Raysville Fire Department. He was also a Mormon by faith.

Survivors include his wife, Robbie Akin Appling, Thomson; two daughters, Terry Appling Hagan, and her husband, Darrel, Dearing, and Rhonda Jackson, Colorado; brother; Joel Appling, Jacksonville, Fla.; sister, Nell Bryant, Elijay, Ga.; grandchildren, Lindsay Hagan, Elizabeth Hagan, Katlyn Hagan, and Kelly Appling, seven great-grandchildren and numerous cousins.

Mr. Appling was preceded in death by two of his grandchildren, Rosalyn Jackson and Amanda A. Piercy.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
