THOMSON - Mr. Roy Warren Edwards, 86, of Thomson, entered into rest August 24, 2009, at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Ruby Benson Edwards for 61 years.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at Sweetwater Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard C. Dendler officiating. Interment followed in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the C. D. Cason Sunday School Class and members of the William Prescott Sunday School Class.
Mr. Edwards was born in Warren County but has lived in McDuffie County most of his life. He was the son of the late Elias Duval "Babe" Edwards and the late Alma Reese Edwards. Mr. Edwards served in the U.S. Army Field Artillery Unit during WWII in Germany and France. He was retired as a carpenter. Mr. Edwards was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church where he served as a past Sunday School Teacher, Training Union Teacher and served on the Properties Committee. He was a member of the C. D. Cason Sunday School Class and was also a Deacon Emeritus.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Benson Edwards, Thomson; and son, Ronnie Edwards, Thomson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
