WARRENTON --- A 58-year-old man killed in a single vehicle crash on Mayfield Road last Thursday night has been identified.
Trooper Matthew MacDonald of the Georgia State Patrol post in Thomson said the victim was William Moss, Jr., of the 600 block of Andrews Road, Warrenton.
Mr. Moss, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from his 1988 Chevrolet Blazer after it flipped several times.
The crash occurred shortly after 9 p.m., 2.6 miles west of Stoney Hill Road, according to a report filed by Trooper MacDonald.
Mr. Moss, who was alone in the vehicle, had been traveling west on Mayfield Road before the crash.
Trooper MacDonald said "for unknown reasons" Mr. Moss left the road, went onto the north shoulder and traveled a distance of 74 feet, 3 inches before he overcorrected the first of three times.
After overcorrecting the second time, Mr. Moss traveled 139 feet, 10 inches on the road before re-entering the north shoulder.
Mr. Moss then overcorrected a third time when attempting to bring the vehicle back onto the road.
The SUV traveled 74 feet, 6 inches before flipping, eventually ejecting Mr. Moss, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
