New teachers

Thomson High is fortunate to have six new teachers join its staff this year. These teachers have already demonstrated their commitment to excellence through their willingness to engage students in rigorous classroom activities.

COMMANDER BREWER is the new NJROTC teacher. When asked about his first impressions of THS, he responded that we are a close-knit community. For the last five years, Commander Brewer has taught at Greenbrier High School in Columbia County. Commander Brewer has been married for 27 years and they have two boys Kyle, 25, and David, 21. Commander Brewer just started an Air Rifle and Orienteering team at THS. He enjoys playing golf in his spare time. A favorite quote that he shared with us is: "Excellence becomes a habit".

MRS. BROWN is the new social studies teacher. This is Mrs. Brown's first year at THS. She taught at Screven County High. She looks at THS as an excellent learning environment. Mrs. Brown's loves her job and relocating brought her to McDuffie County. She shared that her favorite moment in time is obtaining a career. Mrs. Brown enjoys writing outside of school hours and she feels strongly that all students should become future business leaders.

MRS. BURNS is the new FACS teacher. She really enjoys her job and was a former teacher at Norris Elementary. She looks upon THS proudly and loves the faculty here. Mrs. Burns has one daughter who attends THS and says that she cherishes the day that her daughter was born. She enjoys traveling, church and shopping and a favorite quote that she shared with us is "Strive to be the best you can be. Always think positive and never settle for less."

MRS. STROTHER is also a new science teacher. Having been married for only two months to a McDuffie County native, she moved here and took a job at THS. She really enjoys her job and looks at THS as being a great learning environment with high standards. Mrs. Strother plans to participate in extra- curricular activities. Her favorite moment in time is going from behind the desk to in front of the desk. Mrs. Strother enjoys going to church, spending time with her husband, and going out with friends.

MRS. DANIEL is a new teacher in the language arts department. This is her first year teaching for she just graduated from Florida State University. She is fascinated with her job. Mrs. Daniel states that THS is a very welcoming family. What brought her to McDuffie County was her sister who lives in Martinez. Mrs. Daniel is unsure about what extra- curricular activities she will sponsor, but she hopes to soon become involved. A quote she shared with us is, "Even the wisest mind has something yet to learn".

MRS. ROGERS is a new science teacher. She takes pleasure in her job, and she likes the fact that THS has a collaborative and positive environment. She is from Columbia County and took the opportunity to become one of our outstanding staff. Her favorite moment she remembers is getting a job. Other than teaching, she enjoys Martial Arts, and a favorite quote she shared with us is, "Students may not remember what you say but they will always remember how you made them feel."
