Mistletoe State Park invites kids to go fish

Bring your kids, fishing poles and picnic lunch and come enjoy the park for the day.

Mistletoe State Park will be hosting a Kids Fishing Event Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. This event is open to kids ages 15 and under. Parents can help their children with their fishing poles, but the children are the ones fishing Georgia Department of Natural Resources Fisheries will stock a cove located in the park's picnic area with catfish to make easy catching for the kids. Friends of Mistletoe will be on hand to skin and cook the fish your children catch, if your child wants.

There will be plenty of activities for the children throughout the event. Park staff will have a "Play Day" with games such as ladder golf, putt-putt holes, bean bag toss and jump roping. Kaboom will also be providing games for the kids to play.

Mistletoe State Park is waiving the parking fee in celebration of Free Day in the Parks and there will be no charge for the Fishing Rodeo or the Play Day Games. This is also National Hunting & Fishing Day, so anyone can fish without a fishing license that day, however, the fishing rodeo is just for kids.

Mistletoe State Park is located on Clark's Hill Lake north of Thomson. The park has 92 campsites and 10 cottages guests may rent throughout the year.

For more information about the Kid's Fishing Rodeo and Free Play Day contact Mistletoe State Park at 706-541-0321 or visit the park's Web site at gastateparks.org.
