THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. William W. Rooks, 80, widower of Mrs. Margie C. Rooks, died Monday, September 21, 2009, at the Georgia War Veterans Home in Augusta.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, in the Thomson Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Kenney and the Rev. John Cook officiating. Burial was in Westview Cemetery.
Mr. Rooks was a native of Glenco, Ala., but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was retired from Civil Service. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Thomson Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon, elder, and Sunday School superintendent. He was a past member of the Thomson Lions Club. He will be remembered by others as a very compassionate and humble man. He loved spending time with his family, gardening and playing golf.
A special thanks to Denise Harmon, his caregiver, and the fifth floor of the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home for the care and love given to him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Rooks, and his siblings, Luther Rooks, Lucious Rooks, Josie Tarpley, Ruth Kimbrell, and Ruby Rooks.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in- law, Diane and Forrest Page, Martinez; two grandchildren, Ryan and his wife, Brandy Page, Martinez and Lindsey Page, Martinez; and two sisters, Eva (Johnny) Dunn, Gasden, Ala., and Martha (Joyce) Hale, Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Memorials may be made to Quest United Methodist Church, Thomson Presbyterian Church or the Georgia War Veteran Nursing Home.
