WARRENTON, Ga. - Mr. Daniel Gilbert Smith, 88, beloved husband of 62 years to Mrs. Grace Roberson Smith of Warrenton died Monday September 21, 2009, at his residence.
Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at the Long Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Chad Crews officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Smith, a native of Glascock County, Ga., was the son of the late Arch Daniel and Susie Mae Wren Smith. He retired from the USDA after 36 years of service and also retired as a dairy farmer. He was a member of the board of directors of the Washington EMC for 33 years and upon his recent retirement was named director emeritus. He was also a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge #11 and a member of Long Creek Baptist Church were he served as a deacon since 1957 and currently serving as chairman.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Gayle (David) Price, of Twin City, Ga., and Brenda (Douglas) Ellis, of Warrenton; one sister, Ophelia Smith McLeroy, of Athens, Ga.; six grandchildren, Kevin Price, John Price, Derek Price, Amanda Wilkerson, Jamie Ellis, and Matthew Ellis; eight great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Gracen, Thomas James, Griffin, Wesley, Caroline, Mathias, and Connor.
Pallbearers were grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Long Creek Baptist Church.
Lowe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
