Thomson graduate gets scholarship

Kalyn Marabeth Kitchings has been selected to receive the Mark Alan Lord Scholarship awarded by the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences for the 2009-2010 academic year. Each year the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences awards approximately $100,000 in scholarships to students studying in any of its 24 majors.

The Mark Alan Lord Scholarship was established in 1990 in memory of Mark Alan Lord from West Laurens High School who was named outstanding senior in the College of Agriculture where he graduated Cum Laude in 1985 with a major in Agricultural Economics.

Kalyn is a sophomore majoring in Animal Science at the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Kalyn is a 2008 graduate of Thomson High School. While in high school, Kalyn was active in FCA, Tri-M Music Fraternity, FBLA, National Beta Club, Color Guard and the District Honor Band.

While at UGA, Kalyn has been a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the Creswell Community Council. After graduation, Kalyn plans to pursue a career in Veterinary Medicine.

Kalyn is the daughter of Mr. Steve and Mrs. Sonia Kitchings of Harlem.
