The Screaming Devils of Warren County High School traveled to Vienna, Ga., last Friday night looking to improve their record to 3-1 on the season. But the Bobcats of Dooly County had something else in mind for the visitors -- handing them their second loss in as many weeks.
The game started with the Bobcats kicking off to Warren County's Dominique Menchaca who ran it back 28 yards, thus giving the Screaming Devils the ball at their own 38 yard line. After picking up a first down in two plays, a fumbled snap set up a third and 15 situation. After stalling, Warren County head coach Marleau Blount decided it is in the best interest of his team to punt the ball away.
The Bobcats got their first opportunity to score from their own 18 yard line. After two impressive runs to start their first possession, Warren County corner back, Montavious Erwin, picked off a pass from Dooly County quarterback Antorius Watkins.
The first score didn't come until the second quarter. The Bobcats got the ball at the Warren County 30. After a 13-yard pass completion, Watkins showcased his running ability and scored on a 19-yard run with 10:40 to play in the first half. The Bobcats led 6-0.
The game then turned quiet with both teams' defenses forcing punts and turnovers. Dooly County got the ball back with under a minute left in the second quarter. The Bobcats quarterback then hooked up with a receiver on a 40-yard pass reception -- getting the ball to the Warren County 21. The Screaming Devils' defense stepped up and forced three incompletes to stall the Bobcats' scoring threat.
The second half was relatively quiet, too, until the fourth quarter when Dooly County scored and increased their lead to 12-0.
The Screaming Devils got the ball back at their own 45 and began their only touchdown march of the game. The offensive attack got started with Erwin carrying the team. He rushed six times for 43 yards. Another fumble occurred on a snap from center, but Dozier recovered it and took a loss on the play. Two plays later, Dozier hit Darius Jenkins on a 24-yard touchdown pass with 2:46 left in the game.
Warren County attempted an onsides kick, but it was unsuccessful.
The Screaming Devils return home this week to play host to North Paulding at Albert J. Massey Field in Warrenton.
