A time out for me
For women ages 40-64 only, a special day to learn about breast and cervical cancer, relieving stress, and preparing healthier foods. The program will provide the opportunity for breast exams and to schedule a mammogram or pap test. Some women may qualify for a free mammogram through the BCCP program.
The program is from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday at the McDuffie County Health Department, 307 Greenway St. Pre-registration is required by calling (706) 595-1815. Sponsored by the McDuffie County Health Department, University of Georgia Cooperative Extension and the American Cancer Society.
Pilates for pink
The Thomson Family Y is offering a pilates class that includes mat, reformer and standing pilates at its Y130 location on Main Street. A $10 donation for the class will benefit breast cancer research. The class is not restricted to Y members, and is at 6 p.m., Thursday Oct. 8. Call (706) 595-5615 for more information.
Look good, feel better
Teaches adult female cancer patients how to cope with the appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Cosmetologists teach skin care and makeup and hair/wig techniques. Each participant receives a free gift kit of name-brand cosmetics. The next session will be from 5-7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 14, at the McDuffie Regional Medical Center.

Road to recovery
An ongoing breast cancer support program by the American Cancer Society for patients with breast cancer. Survivors of breast cancer are paired with newly diagnosed patients. Call (800) 227-2345.
