It's a McDuffie golfer's dream -- spend a day on the golf course with friends, win prizes and support the local economy at the same time. The third annual Thomson-McDuffie Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic is Friday, Oct. 16. The three-person scramble is limited to the first 26 teams.
"I hope the community will come out and support the golf tournament. I know they won't regret it," said Bobby Hildreth, co-chairman of the tournament committee with Andy Knox and David Jopling. "We work it and we play in it every year, and really enjoy it."
The tournament costs $300 per team, or $100 per golfer. A hole sponsorship is $150. Mr. Hildreth said all proceeds go to fund the chamber's programs and services to the membership.
"It's one of the Chamber's larger fundraisers, plus it's a lot of fun," he said.
Prizes will be given to first- and second-place teams, closest to the pin and longest drive.
"And plenty of food to eat and plenty to drink," Mr. Hildreth said.
The tournament is hosted by The Knox Foundation. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m.
A buffet lunch prepared by Belle Meade also starts at 11:30. The golf tournament starts at 1 p.m.
Sponsors of the tournament include Amcor Inc. Manufacturing, Camellia City Cleaners, Rosser International, Inc., R.W. Allen Construction, Reliant, Shaw Industries and Thomson Plastics.
The camellia sponsor is Stokes-Hodges Autos and bronze sponsors are Anthony Auto Sales and Milsco Manufacturing.
