THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. L.W. (Lewis Walter) Moore, 84, beloved husband of Mrs. Helen Perdue Moore of 64 years, died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at his residence.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, in First Baptist Church of Thomson with Dr. Jim Ramsey officiating. Burial was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, with Navy honors.
Mr. Moore was born in Harlem but lived in Thomson for many years. He retired from Georgia Power Co. after 42 years of service, and worked for Thomson Co. He was a member of Thomson First Baptist Church, where he taught the L.W. Moore Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Thomson Lions Club, a past Commander of the V.F.W. and a past Boy Scout leader of pack 398. He graduated from Thomson High School with the class of 1942, where he played varsity football.
Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his brother, Forest Moody Moore Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Helen Perdue Moore, Thomson; his daughter, Lynn (Damon) Howard Davis, Thomson; his son, L. Dewayne Moore, Warner Robins; a brother, Jack H. Moore, Thomson; his grandchildren, Brandon Howard and Ivy Land, a great-granddaughter, Summer Land, a stepgranddaughter, Sylanne Davis, and several neices and nephews.
Pallbearers were Wayne Reese, Steve Perdue, Clay Walden, Ed Maxwell, Gary Moore and Joey Perdue. Honorary pallbearers were past and present members of the L.W. Moore Sunday School Class and past and present employees of Georgia Power Co.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Youth Scholarship Fund, Thursday Ministries or the Hospitality Committee, all of Thomson First Baptist Church. Friends may call at the residence or at Curtis Funeral Home.
