Emily Reese - Dearing Elementary School

Q. How many years have you been teaching, and what subjects and grades are you currently teaching?

A. I am in my fourth year of teaching. I teach kindergarten, which includes all subjects.

Q. Tell us about your family.

A. I am the daughter of Bill and Patricia Reese and the granddaughter of the late E.W. "Pecker" and Elizabeth Reese and the late Evelyn Evans.

I have an older sister, Jenny, and a younger brother, Al.

Q. What do you do when you're not teaching?

A. I am a member of the First Baptist Church of Thomson and work with the Young Musicians Choir.

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, shopping, and playing the piano.

Q. What is your favorite thing about being a teacher?

A. The thing I enjoy most about teaching is my kindergarten class! They are so excited about being in school and are very receptive to being taught. Their eagerness to learn is evident in their mastery of the basic skills that will allow them to succeed in later grades.

It is also being there to witness those "ah ha" moments when the "light bulb" comes on that makes teaching so rewarding.

Q. What other information might people be interested to know about you?

A. I am a 2001 graduate of Thomson High School. In 2006, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Augusta State University with a Bachelor of Science in early childhood education.

I received my Master of Education degree in curriculum and instruction from Augusta State University in August.

While working on my masters, I was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
