Girls softball finishes record season with quarterfinal loss

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- The most successful softball season in the history of Thomson High School came to an end in the quarterfinals of the Georgia Class AAA Girls' State Playoffs.

The Lady Bulldogs were defeated by the West Laurens Lady Raiders 5-2, eliminating them in the double-elimination tournament. It marked the fourth loss this season to West Laurens. The Lady Raiders won once during the regular season and twice during the recent region tournament in Dublin.

In the opener of the quarterfinals, Thomson lost 2-0 to Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, thus placing them in the losers bracket and pitting them against West Laurens, who also lost their opener.

Thomson, which had been ranked as high as No. 5 in Class AAA, finishes the season with an overall record of 25-8-1.
