He may be old, but he's not that old.
The First Baptist Church of Thomson will celebrate its 150th anniversary this weekend, and Pastor Jim Ramsey wants to set the facts straight.
"I know I may look that old to some of you, but I really was not around back then," he quipped in a recent newsletter.
Those who wish, may dress in period attire from 1859 for the morning service on Sunday, Nov. 15, Dr. Ramsey said.
There will be four speakers for the service --all previous pastors. Dr. Ramsey said they will share significant times in which they experienced the hand of God upon the life of the church.
"It should be thrilling to hear them share," he said.
The First Baptist choir will sing an anthem written for the church's anniversary. Immediately following the service, the congregation will gather on the front lawn of the church for a photograph.
Dr. Ramsey said the picture will be used on the cover of the new church directory in January.
Everyone is invited to bring a covered dish for a dinner in the gym after the picture is taken.
Sunday school starts at 9:15 that morning, and the morning service begins at 10:30.
"Don't miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime experience to give praise to God for what he has done through our church," Dr. Ramsey said.
Details of the celebration will be added to a history book being written by Doris Hunt. Tickets to reserve a copy of the 250-page, hardbound book, A Telling ... A History of the First Baptist Church of Thomson, can be purchased from the church.
The church is located at Jackson and West Hill street in Thomson.
