Agencies will receive funding

The Community Foundation for the Central Savannah River Area will announce the 2009 Unrestricted Grant Award recipients at 10 a.m. on Friday in the Enterprise Mill Events Center.

The Foundation's Unrestricted Grants Program provides support to area agencies meeting pressing and changing community needs and improving the quality of life for those they serve.

The distributions come from the foundation's Unrestricted Fund, which is primarily supported by gifts from the Augusta National Golf Club.

Unrestricted grants are awarded annually to deserving agencies serving the counties of Burke, Columbia, McDuffie, Richmond, Aiken and Edgefield.

This year's program brought 17 volunteer panels from throughout the Central Savannah River Area, totaling 123 individuals.

The volunteer panels assisted the foundation in reviewing the applicants and in the award recommendations.

The unrestricted grants are in addition to the Foundation's individual Donor Advised Grants.

Since April of 1996, the foundation has made 3,546 Donor Advised Grants totaling $23,253,194.05 and 294 Unrestricted Grants totaling $2,972,430.31. That brings the grand total of all grants combined since 1996 to 3,840, totaling $26,225,624.36.

The Community Foundation's unrestricted grant making focuses on Arts/Cultural; Civic Affairs; Community Development; Education; Environmental Services; Human Services; Health; and Children/Youth/Family Services.
