May selected to be assistant to Morris president

Derek May has been named assistant to the president of Morris Communications Company LLC. His appointment to the newly created position will be effective Jan. 4.

"Derek has been part of the Morris Communications family for more than two decades, and he brings broad-ranging experience to this new position," said William S. Morris IV, the president.

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with him in this new capacity."

A native Augustan and graduate of Augusta State University, he began his career at Morris in 1988, working in information technology at the corporate headquarters.

He has held positions with The Augusta Chronicle and the Lubbock (Texas) Avalanche-Journal , served as director of sales and marketing at the Athens (Ga.) Banner-Herald , and was named publisher of The St. Augustine (Fla.) Record in 2006.
