Mr. William H. Wilcher
MITCHELL, Ga. - Mr. William H. Wilcher, 80, of
Mitchell, entered into rest Thursday, December 31, 2009
at the University Hospital, Augusta.
Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 2,
2010 at the Mitchell United Methodist Church, Mitchell,
with the Rev. Mary Griswell officiating. Interment was in
the church cemetery.
William was born in Mitchell, on April 4, 1929, to
the late Mr. Billy Cleon and Janie Stanley Wilcher. He
spent his childhood in Mitchell and graduated from
Gibson High School in 1946. He served in the United
States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, served as
deputy sherriff/investigator for the Richmond County
Sherriff's Department for seven years; and spent 35 years
as a probation parole officer in the Augusta and Toombs
Judicial Circuits. He was a devoted member of Mitchell
United Methodist Church, a member of the Mitchell City
Council; a former member of Glascock County Lions Club;
was a charter member and the first president of the Georgia
Parole Association.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mrs. Etta
Griswell Wilcher; one son, William Rodney (Gail) Wilcher,
Thomson and one daughter, Amanda W. Davis, of Evans;
four grandchildren, Rodney Adam (Heather) Wilcher,
Brock Christopher (Diane) Wilcher, William Wilcher
Davis, and Zachary Benton Davis; one great-grandchild,
Abigail Lee Wilcher.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother,
Charles Wright Wilcher, Sr. Pallbearers were Anthony
Griswell, Jody Usry, Wayne Williams, Mike Chance, Casey
Caroll, Bill Raley, Jr., Kelley Sercer and Scott Lamb.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
