GOVERNMENT OFFICES CLOSING

WHERE: City of Thomson

WHEN: Monday, Jan. 18

INFO: To celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday. Residents are reminded not to place their garbage or recycle containers at curbside on Monday. Monday garbage and recycle pickup service will occur on Tuesday, Jan. 19. If an emergency arises on Jan. 18, residents should call (706) 595-2145 or (706) 595-6133 to arrange repairs of utility (water, sewer, natural gas) services. Police and fire departments will be on the job as usual.

EVENING SCHOOL COURSES

WHERE: Thomson High School

WHEN: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30-6:30 p.m.

INFO: Open to McDuffie County School students in grades 9-12. These computer-based courses are self-paced and are hosted on the Thomson High School campus. Evening school classes are $50 per half-unit attempted, and students may register by contacting Mr. Richard Williams in the THS guidance office at (706) 986-4228. Parents are reminded that local requirements mandate a minimum number of core academic units are required for promotion each year. Therefore, students are encouraged to use the evening school classes to recover credit for academic courses failed in prior semesters.

VALENTINE DATE WITH ELVIS

WHERE: Warrenton Cultural Center

WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 13, 8 p.m.

INFO: Jay Allen and his live band, That's the Way It Is, of LaHigh Valley, Pa., will perform songs from the 1950s up to the 1970s. Bring your own refreshments. Door prizes will be given. Buy tickets for $12 each by calling (706) 986-9884 or (706) 220-8198.
